Murder Events of June 6th 1993: What is known:

The Four Assailants:

The Four Devotees Inside The Mandir:

Events: On June 6th 1993, between 9:20pm and 9:40pm, the four assailants, armed with knives, went to the Mandir (the then residence of Sathya Sai Baba) and tried to gain entry but were denied and a fight ensued between the four assailants and the four devotees inside the mandir.

N. Radhakrishna and Sai Kumar Mahajan (devotees inside the mandir) were stabbed to death and Anil Patley and Vishnu Bhatt (the other two devotees inside the mandir) were seriously injured but did not die.

N. Radhakrishna was stabbed and cut no less than 16 times. Sai Kumar Mahajan was stabbed no less than 5 times.

An alarm was sounded, floodlights were turned on, Sathya Sai Baba fled his room on the first floor, and the four men, armed with knives (who killed two people and assaulted two others) barricaded themselves in Sathya Sai Baba’s apartment.

All four men were shot to death by police.

Sathya Sai Baba escaped unharmed.

That is all that is solidly known.

Unfortunatley, the police tampered with the evidence, lied and contaminated the crime scene (which was confirmed by the CID's investigation). Such being the case, the crime scene cannot provide any evidence of what truly transpired that night. The police claimed self defence and some of the police sustained lacerations and minor injuries. Everything else that happened is speculation, assumption or based on conspiracy theories. No one knows what truly happened. Even the eyewitness accounts contradict each other. Furthermore, the eyewitness accounts are given by anonymous people. Many photographs were taken of the contaminated crime scene by Mr. Padmanabhan of Sai Towers.

Enter Basava Premanand and Robert Priddy:

Two people have developed flimsy conspriacy theories about the police shootings on June 6th, 1993: Robert Priddy and Basava Premanand.

Even though Robert Priddy and Basava Premanand were not present when the events transpired on June 6th 1993, both have written conspiracy theories as to what they speculated happened that night. Both base the bulk of their speculations on contradictory newspaper clippings that heavily relied on anonymous sources.

This link is about two women who died in a terrible accident when the domes to a museum at Prashanti Nilayam collapsed. They were not "murdered". The women were Mrs. Hebel and Mrs. Mainaric. My good friend, Michael Oliver, was pulled alive from the rubble, but died en route to a Bangalore hospital.

This link is not about an attempted murder on Sathya Sai Baba at all. There is no documentation or evidence to back this up this claim. Supposedly, the police filed a case of an attempted murder, withdrew the case and then allowed the investigation to continue in a Penukonda court. If this is true, there should be a fantastic paper trail. What evidence does this newspaper cite? Nothing. They cite an unnamed "high ranking police officer" and the article openly admitted that it remained a "mystery" why the Canadian national was forcibly deported. If he tried to kill Sathya Sai Baba, then it would not be a mystery, now would it? Furthermore, why would a person attempting to kill Sai Baba be allowed to leave India without being subjected to the law?

Andrew Richardson was not a Sai devotee (nor did any Sai Center in Britain know of him). He was a seriously disturbed individual who lept to his death in Bangalore from the eighth floor of the State Bank of Mysore building on K.G. Road (I was in India when it happened). The Times of India (20-9-1996) stated:

"The foreigner left a note in which he described, though incoherently, about his misery that drove him to suicide. 'I was confused, I came to India in search of peace, but could not find it', he has said. He apparently visited the Sai Ashram earlier and had seen Sai Baba, as it was mentioned in his suicide note. But the police have not confirmed whether it refers to the one in Whitefield here in Bangalore or the one in Puttaparthi. Mr. Sood said the letter was barely legible, but stated that he was in deep depression. The police have contacted the British High Commission to trace Richardson's kin and send the body back to England."

There are Christians who commit suicide. Do we blame Jesus?

This link is about a distraught family that committed suicide after their daughter died from a brain tumor and was not cured. Furthermore, they killed themselves near the Super Specialty Hospital, not Prashanti Nilayam (which is the Ashram itself). The suicide letter said:

"God has forsaken us. I had great affection and love for my daughter. So we are going to the place where she has gone. No one is responsible for our death. I myself have influenced all the members to commit suicide to become one with Sai Baba. We are offering ourselves at his feet. All our properties have to be transferred to the Satya Sai Trust. The Shradda ceremony should be done by my friend Ramakrishnan."

It is obvious that man did not blame Sathya Sai Baba. He said "No one is responsible for our death" and mentioned he still maintained his devotion to Sai Baba despite the tragedy. There are Christians whose children die through accidents or illness. Is Jesus to blame?

This is just filler stuff. This newspaper article made several accusations against Sathya Sai Baba without providing any sort of verifiable documentation. Just hearsay claims from ex-devotees, atheists and rationalists.

Just about a desperate man who had an "air pistol with pellets" (in other words, a BB-gun) who was so determined to get an interview with Sai Baba that he contemplated taking someone hostage with a threat to kill him/her (yes, with a BB-gun) if he did not get an interview. Needless to say, the man never took anyone hostage and never threatened to kill anyone. It was just a plan that didn't work out.

Sathya Sai Baba stated that the boy with the "air pistol with pellets" did not intend to kill him. Something confirmed by the boy himself. Baba also pointed out it was an "air pistol" used for shooting at birds.

This is the story about a staunch Sai Devotee named Marcos Santamaría who died due to Hepatitis-C. His devotion to Sathya Sai Baba gave him VIP status. Although there is no evidence of anything improper going on between him and Sai Baba, the person who wrote the article said:

"Marcos was regarded as being 'spoiled by Baba' due to the large number of interviews he had had and the ring and other jewelry he received. Eventually he didn't even have to stand in line for anything in the ashram due to the fact that he had reached a VIP status. For a man of 32 and considering the time he had been a devotee, this seemed like an unusual amount of progress within the organization".

This comment, suggestive of sexual impropriety, sounds motivated by jealousy. Hepatitis C is contagious and easily spead through sexual contact. It is absurd to think that Sathya Sai Baba was engaging in sexual acts with a man known to have Hepatitis-C. Despite Santamaria's death, his family did not blame Sathya Sai Baba and were still devoted to him. Santamaria was not murdered, nor was he a missing person.

This is about a seriously disturbed individual who was carrying two detonaters and a fuse wire (no explosives). The police said he was an "unsound man" and he was sent to a mental hospital in Hyderbad to be assessed. No murders, no missing persons.

This is a cult link that deals with the "mysterious circumstances" of the death of an unnamed British man whom allegedly claimed he had been molested by Sai Baba. No other information was given. He did not die at or near Prashanti Nilayam.

Read this site and ask yourself, "Where is the evidence and proof?" You won't find any. What you will find is the irrational use of newspaper clippings along with outrageous speculations that have no evidence to back it up. It's about time that Basava Premanand give us the official documents to back up his conspiracy theories against Sai Baba. Premanand claimed: "I have the records of more than a hundred persons destroyed by the Satya Sai Baba gang..." and then related a story of:

"Mr. Venkatamuni of Madras who was done away at Madurai in an air conditioned room and then after getting death certificates from doctors taken to Madras by Satya Sai Baba in his own car and cremated without giving any information to the police and thus hushing up the matter" (Ref).

Basava Premanand sees foul play in any death of a Sai Devotee. Maybe this is why Basava Premanand is called an "irreverent" and "fanatic" rationalist. I would substitute "rationalist" with "irrationalist".

Why is the only evidence provided a newspaper clipping? Such serious allegations and all that is given is a clipping from a newspaper. Nothing else. Even after all these years and to date, Sathya Sai Baba has never been charged with any crime, sexual or otherwise. Period.

This was not a disappearance, it was a murder. However, the alleged facts in this newspaper clipping are incorrect. The woman was found alive in her flat at Prashanti Nilayam (when Sathya Sai Baba was not there). She was knocked unconscious, but later (before she died) she was able to identify her two assailants. She died from the head injuries she sustained. She withdrew a large amount of money from a bank and it was witnessed by the people who attacked her. Sathya Sai Baba directly told her not to stay at Ashram, however she disregarded Baba's words.

The incident in question did happen and was ruled a suicide. However, Basava Premanand added to the facts with his erroneous speculations and conspiracy theories (none of which can be proven). Also, this incident did not occur at Prashanti Nilayam. It occurred in Mangalore, Karnataka at an educational complex under the name of Satya Sai Lokashikshana Trust (which is not an official Sathya Sai Baba school). There is no proof that the teenager was murdered and the reasons for his suicide were unknown. The fact of the matter is that suicide happens all around the world. With such a large following of adherents, there are bound to be Sai Devotees who are depressed and kill themselves. We already see this in Christianity where adherents commit suicide. Yet Christians do not blame Jesus.
