| Hari Sampath Relates His Version of the Miracle Picture Story |
On the above referenced link, Hari Sampath tells us what "really" happened in regard to a miracle picture story. Here is Hari Sampath's Post:
Myth and Fact... 2

This is a very popular story that was doing the rounds in 1995-6.
Myth : An airplane, preparing for landing, in Venezuela, ran into some very serious trouble. The pilot announced that all was lost. A Sai Baba devotee on board prayed to Sai Baba, and saw Sai Baba appear in the skies !!!! He appeared to be holding his right hand, palm facing up, and actually holding the plane, till it landed safely. The Sai Baba devotee, quickly took out her camera and snapped a picture of "Swami in the skies, among the clouds" ( Rs 50-/ in PN , by the way ). This incident was reported in The "Venezuela Times" next day as "Indian Saint appears in mid air to save plane"
Effect : Spectacular !!! What a great miracle !! Swami is giving another example of his Omniscience and control over nature and saving Grace !!! Reported to all and sundry, along with thousands of copies of the photo sold and distributed. When Sai Baba was asked about his comments, he said grandly after taking a look at the photo "where a devotee's heart is pure, Swami would even save hundreds of people by traveling anywhere". Later, news trickles in from the inner circle that actually as the plane was going to crash, Swami was telling those around him that he had just been to the other part of the world to save a plane as a devotee had called. How fantastic !!!!
Fact : Like most landings, the pilot was expecting a bumpy touchdown, that is all. And like all Sai Baba devotees (if any of you have ever flown with Sai Baba devotees, you will know what I am saying), this particular devotee instantly started praying to Sai Baba. She had with her a copy of "Avatar" by Howard Murphet which she was reading and held the book close to her heart . As it was quite into early evening and slightly dark, she saw the reflection of the photo on the book cover on the glass window of the plane ( the picture she took is an exact replica of the photo on the cover of "Avatar", surrounded by clouds) . She was already in a panicky state of mind, and greatly excited, snapped what she thought she saw through the glass window, with her camera. The situation with the plane was ok, and they landed alright.
This was never reported in any newspaper, and there is no paper called "Venezuela Times". All the extra stories about Sai Baba talking about the incident when it is supposed to have happened were later additions, and Sai Baba had later addressed a person during a group interview and said " didn't I tell you when I was going to save that plane? " and of course, the close devotee said "yes , you did , Swami", who would quarrel with God ????
Result : One more spectacular "miracle" goes into the records !!!!! |
Hari Sampath Gets It Wrong Again!
Hari Sampath's "Myth" and "Effect" statements are true. He also correctly states that there is no newspaper called the "Venezuela Times". That's about all he gets correct.
This story is completely a hoax. It never happened. There are simply no facts to support it whatsoever. Clearly, what happened is someone had some fun using their Paint Shop Pro or Adobe software to "mask" (or merge) an old picture of Sathya Sai Baba with a picture of clouds in the sky.
This is the original picture from Howard Murphet's "Sai Baba Avatar" book. As you can see, the title covers most of the bottom half of the picture and the title clearly covers his thumb and part of his hand. Also, the picture, on the cover of this book, was hand painted. It is not the original picture.

Here is the "miracle picture" that was supposedly taken from an unnamed woman on an airplane that ran into serious trouble. After praying to SSB, the unnamed woman claimed she saw SSB in the clouds and took this picture through the window. You can see that the image of SSB in the sky is not taken from Howard Murphet's book, as the title is not seen on his thumb or SSB's clothes. This image is also the original picture. It was not hand painted, as was done on Howard Murphet's book. Hari Sampath, who knows what "really" happened, says that the image of Howard Murphet's book was reflected in the plane window and that is what the woman saw and took a picture of. This is simply untrue. If it were true, where is the title to the book that clearly covers SSB's thumb and clothing?

How easy is it to create an image like the "miracle picture"? I merged an Om and another old picture of SSB into the "miracle picture" in less than 2 minutes. Anyone could have faked this miracle picture. Here is the result.

Despite Hari Sampath claiming to know what "really"happened, he should have simply brought up the facts. The facts are that anyone can digitally create a photo as the one supposedly taken of SSB in the sky. Furthermore, the image of SSB, in the sky, came from a known picture of him. Why would SSB appear in the sky in the form of a known picture? That SSB claimed he saved the woman, from a plane crash, is nothing more than people embellishing the mystery surrounding the picture. Funny how no one knows the actual name of the lady who was allegedly saved. None of the information from this story can be substantiated in any way. This story has no factual basis. Despite this fact, Hari Sampath knows what really happened and relates this story as if it really did happen, but under different circumstances! Another perfect example of Hari Sampath's poor research and wild speculations and blind assumptions. |
