STEPHEN CARTHEW

From: Joe (January 12th, 2007)
Subject: Sathya Sai Baba
To: Stephen Carthew

Dear Stephen,

I have come across what appears to be various contradictory comments about you and your Sathya Sai Baba devotee/non-devotee status. Are you still a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba and did you ever personally speak to Dr. Bhatia about his defection from Sai Baba?

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Joe Moreno

Hi Joe,

I am unsure of what you have heard/read.

I would like to know what contradictions there are.

I was a devotee between 1985 and 2000. I was sacked as the Spiritual Co-ordinator of South Australia in 2000 as my suggestion that ’allegations about our Guru be examined impartially’ was ruled ’out of order’.

I am no longer a devotee. I respect many of the members of the organisation as people, but do not believe Sai Baba is divine…and I am almost sure that at least some of the allegations are true. However, I am no longer actively involved in the exposé.

My wife continues as a devotee, but not much involved with the organisation. In deference to her, and in respect of her chosen path, I do not comment in public about Sai Baba or the organisation.

Yes I did meet with Dr. Bhatia in 2000. His story, in short was, that he was run out of the Ashram because he challenged his Guru regarding his affiliations with students. Soon after I met with him in a hospital in Delhi he was run over by a bus ( he does not suggest a link). We spoke on the phone a couple of times and then I lost touch with him. Dr. Bhatia has a number of family members who are devotees and was understandably reluctant to go public…and reticent also…because he claimed to have been Sai Baba’s lover for a number of years and still treasured that link and continued to think of him as divine…yet with ambivilance.

I don’t know where you stand Joe or what your interest in all of this is.

I refer you to Barry Pittard who continues to follow this unresolved issue. I appreciate his dedication in trying to make the issues clear. His email is bpittard@optusnet.com.au

All the best

Stephen

RESPONSE TO STEPHEN CARTHEW

Dear Stephen,

Thank you kindly for your response. Unfortunately, you are unaware of the depth and breadth of lies perpetuated by Barry Pittard. You can view some of my grievances with him at:
Link 01

I am the webmaster for saisathyasai.com and sai-fi.net.

I am personally disgusted at the gutter tactics employed by ex-devotees, critics and skeptics of Sathya Sai Baba and decided to do my own investigation into the allegations and was thoroughly shocked at what I discovered.

Although I will not burden you with my journey into the allegations, I would kindly like to direct you to a major development in the Sai Controversy regarding Alaya Rahm (the poster-child for the Anti-Sai movement):

http://www.saisathyasai.com/Rahm-Public-Court-Records/
http://www.saisathyasai.com/Rahm-Public-Court-Records/critics_alaya_rahm_failed_lawsuit.html

Needless to say, all along, everyone was fed an entirely different version of events regarding Alaya Rahm and critics have purposely suppressed information that rightly casts doubts about his allegations. Needless to say, Barry Pittard, Robert Priddy & Co. have boasted about being behind the Unesco withdrawal, the US State Department warning, Michelle Goldberg’s salon.com article, The Guardian UK newspaper article, the BBC Secret Swami programme, the Seduced documentary, among numerous other negative media articles.

If you decide this matter interests you, feel free to view my FAQs page to better understand me and the reasons behind my websites.

Sincerely,

Joe

Dear Joe,

Thanks for the information and your perspectives. I am not involved much these days. I have made my investigations and my choices and carry on with my life without bitterness and name calling of anyone.

As I have said, I respect my wife’s choice of spiritual path, and do not wish to create waves of unpleasantness that would result were you to expand our conversation beyond our communication.

I would therefore ask that you do not post my personal reply to your unsolicited email (or any portions thereof) on your website, or pass it on to others. I have told you what you asked in good will.

I am not prepared to carry on any further communication about this or other related issues.

All the best on your life’s journey.
Regards,
Stephen

RESPONSE TO STEPHEN CARTHEW

From: Joe (January 16th, 2007)

Dear Stephen,

I cannot vouche confidentiality regarding everything you divulged to me considering that you are a current member of JuST, which continues to publish articles against Sathya Sai Baba. Since you continue to lend your support to the JuST group (despite your former claim that you are not involved in the exposé) and your name is still directly affiliated with the JuST group, one would think that you would be fully aware of the controversy and my involvement in the matter. As a member of JuST one would also think you would be aware that you recently endorsed the deceitful and dishonest response given by JuST regarding Alaya Rahm’s self-dismissed lawsuit:
home.hetnet.nl/~ex_baba/engels/articles/alayarahm.htm

Are you saying that your name is being used without your permission? Your name is listed on the following list for JuST:
saipetition.net/JuSTGroup.htm

I am sorry that you not being entirely forthcoming with me or your wife regarding your true sentiments about Sathya Sai Baba and your continued solicitation of Barry Pittard, a well known Anti-Sai Activist who viciously attacks Sai Devotees based simply on their affiliation with Sathya Sai Baba and for no other reason. Shocking.

Joe

STEPHEN CARTHEW - IN CONCLUSION

In Conclusion, Stephen Carthew has not been able to convince his own wife about the truthfulness of the allegations against Sathya Sai Baba (she is still a devotee). If Stephen Carthew cannot convince his own wife, how can he convince others? Since Mr. Carthew was “sacked“ from his position in the Sai Organization, he obviously became disgruntled and decided to wage his own personal vendetta against Sai Baba (a vendetta unconvincing to his own wife). It is well known that Mr. Carthew raised a huge fuss about the allegations and was deeply affected by the unverifiable and unsubstantiated claims made in The Findings.

Even more disturbing is Mr. Carthew’s claim that although he is no longer involved in the exposé, Anti-Sai Activists continue to use his name (taken from the JuST signatories list) to back up their propaganda against Sathya Sai Baba. Mr. Carthew helped create the JuST Group and now he tries to distance himself from them although he has not asked that his name be removed from JuST’s list.
